Sister Of Suspect In Texas Deputy Shooting Speaks Out

The sister of the suspect believed to have fatally shot a deputy Texas constable while he was on his way to work on Tuesday has said she is in “total shock” over the allegations made against her brother.
Speaking to a KPRC 2 reporter, Athir Murady’s sister reportedly said she never imagined her brother would be accused of such a thing.
She said that since his mother died a few years ago, he’d been struggling with mental health issues, and that 10 days prior he had called her to voice concerns he thought the government was after him, the local outlet reported.
Per the outlet, Murady’s sister, who lives in Iraq, only found out about the shooting a few hours prior.
She said she is praying for Constable Maher Husseini’s family following his shooting.
Husseini was killed when the suspect fired gun shots at him after approaching the deputy’s car at the traffic light at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Fondren Road, authorities say.
The Texas deputy, who had been working for Harris County as a constable since 2021, was not in uniform at the time of the shooting.
Husseini was married with children and had recently been promoted. He was rushed to hospital following the shooting but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect is reported to have fled the scene after the shooting, resulting in a 60-mile high-speed chase that saw him drive his vehicle into the water at the Causeway bridge in Galveston Bay.
According to a report from a Houston Police chief, the suspect was treading water, waving his hands in the air, for almost 30 minutes while boats arrived to get him out of the water.
The suspect swam away for around 50-60 yards but the officers, with the help of a police K9, managed to get him restrained in a boat.
It was reported that the K9 bit the suspect while he was being taken into custody and he was taken under guard to UTMB John Sealy Hospital.
The man, described as being an Asian/Middle Eastern of the age of 35 to 40 years old, was taken to Galveston County jail, on charges of evading arrest.
The district attorney has requested for the suspect to be denied bail, according to the local outlet Click2Houston.
Newsweek has contacted the Harris County Police for comment on the incident.
