Here is a wonderful fossil fish from an old German collection. This is Paleoniscum freieslebeni from the Permian of Germany. This specimen exhibits extraordinary detail - the full scale detail is preserved and is very easily seen. Although the head is somewhat disarticulated, the fins and tail are beautifully intact. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well showcased on the large, natural-edged plate of slate. This is a very collectible example of this rare Permian fish.
