This is one of our most requested Lebanese fossils. It is a complete Cyclobatis Stingray from the quarries near Hajoula. Lebanese fossils of this quality are hard to acquire poor collecting and preparation techniques. Cyclobatis is not a true Stingray, but rather a skate, and skates of any type are quite rare. This distinct display example has great form and is extremely detailed - cartilage does not preserve as well as bone, so the quality of preservation here is exceptional. The individual rays are beautifully preserved, and the backbone and tail are even intact. The beautiful fossil has great natural orange coloration and is wonderfully showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of limestone.
And almost every one of the dozens of rays you see is fully natural - not just painted in!
This is an extremely collectible Cyclobatis - one of the coolest and most impressive fossils from Lebanon.
